Kelly Inman
Track Director

The apple didn’t fall far from the tree. Mom Shirley ran the pits at Ascot, Costa Mesa and Glen Helen for 28 years. Dad Bob sold parts at the track, pitted for Alan Christian and sponsored Billy Hamill in the early days of his European career; Inman is a respected name in Speedway racing. Continuing the family tradition Kelly’s credentials are just as impeccable.

Paul Flanders
Public Relations Specialist

Starting out in his father Earl’s Pasadena motorcycle business, learning to run a drill press and grinder by age 12 was normal for the industry and sport. Rebuilding roller bearing crankshafts and doing valve jobs by 16 was extra credit. Getting a ride on Darryl Packard’s Suzuki, Paul set a 50 cc production class speed record of 64 MPH at Bonneville. Soon after, starting at age 18, Paul ventured off to campaign a drag racing stock car for three years. Back to motorcycles, desert racing and enduros soon followed, along with often pitting for brother Bruce during his short speedway racing career.

Shortly after speedway motorcycle racing started at nearby Irwindale Racing, Paul became the pit steward for speedway and starter for the night motocross races at the popular racing facility.

In the meantime, annual August trips to the Bonneville National Speed Trials in Utah saw Paul help Earl with officiating there. Learning to do speed record timing and technical inspections, including post record run engine measurements, Paul obtain recognition from the Federation of International Motorcyclist (FIM). Carrying that certification with him, Paul worked the 1982 World Speedway Championship in the Los Angeles Coliseum as timer and inspector.

Riding desert motorcycle races and enduros eventually involved Paul into dual sport trail riding. From that, Paul ended up on the AMA District 37 Board of Directors (a position he still holds today) as Dual Sport Referee, managing the year-round calendar of 15 dual sport events. Actively promoting the 500 rider LA-Barstow to Vegas National Dual Sport ride in November keeps Paul busy during the speedway racing off-season.

Taking advantage of brother John’s offer to buy him out from his share of the family motorcycle business in 2012, Paul took advantage of that friendly offer, after 45 plus years of working at Flanders Company.

Coaching and managing Little League teams, serving on his kids’ high school Boosters Club board, and working with the American Motorcyclist Association, Paul brings with him a variety of experience to serve as our Public Relations man. Paul recently obtained Speedway Clerk of the Course status with the FIM, just in case a speedway grand prix were to come to the USA and additional officials are needed.
